PETA offers two stamps: 'cruelty-free' and 'vegan'.
What is the difference between 'cruelty-free' and 'vegan'?
Skincare ingredients and products that was not tested on animals are labeled "cruelty-free".
Lanolin is a wax taken from the wool of sheep. Lanolin is a wonderful natural moisturizer for skin, nails and hair. If lanolin is in a skincare product, the product is cruelty-free, but it is not vegan-friendly.
Beeswax is produced by bees. It is cruelty-free, but not vegan.
Milk used in skincare is cruelty-free, but not vegan.
Hyaluronic acid initially was derived only by extraction from rooster combs. Now it is created by bacterial fermentation. It is cruelty-free and vegan.
Vegan-friendly skincare uses only not animal-derived ingredients. Vegan skincare uses ingredients that are made from plants and minerals, as well as safe synthetic ingredients.
Aqua
Deionized water is a great solvent and carrier in skin care products. It is a liquid substance that is capable of dissolving other ingredients that would otherwise be difficult to incorporate into the desired cosmetic. And it is a carrier to deliver active ingredients to where they will be most effective and beneficial to skin.

Carbomer
Carbomer* is vegan, man-made ingredient. Most things that go into your cosmetics and toiletries were originally intended for another purpose altogether and got pressed into service by formulators. But carbomer was always intended for skin products. It stabilizes the formulation and gives it texture. It is thickening agents that help control the viscosity, it helps distribute and suspend insoluble solids into liquid, and prevent the oil and liquid parts of a solution from separating. It has the ability to absorb and retain water, and can swell up to 1000 times their original volume when dispersed in water.

C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate
C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate is a naturally occurring ester of benzoic acid. It is an incredible emollient, which helps to soft and smooth the skin. It is an antimicrobial agent and a preservative. Benzoic acid is a white crystalline acid found naturally in benzoin (balsamic resin obtained from the bark of several species of trees in the genus Styrax), cranberries, and coconut oil. It is extremely safe and very beneficial for the skin.
Methyl Perfluorobutyl Ether
It is a well-known fact that aged or damaged skin is not well-oxygenated. This deficit of oxygen leads to physiological changes that result in premature aging increase of fine lines, wrinkles and a dull or sallow complexion. Perfluorocarbons are unique gas carriers that allow cosmetic ingredients to deliver atmospheric oxygen. Oxygen doesn’t dissolve as well in water, so instead it’s dissolved in chemicals called perfluorocarbons, which are stable, nonreactive carbon-based compounds containing fluorine atoms. They can dissolve 20 times more oxygen than water. Methyl perfluorobutyl ether is the most common perfluorocarbon in cosmetics.

Peat Extract
is the most potent and refined form of peat since it isolates and extracts specific organic compounds from complete peat. It is strong anti aging ingredient that shielding the skin from free radicals and boosting collagen production. It helps to improve cell turnover, increase skin elasticity, and tighten the pores. It has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties.

Peptides
The more Peptides the better!
Peptides in skin care can provide significant anti-aging benefits. Proteins and peptides are fundamental components of cells that carry out important biological functions. Proteins are formed from one or more polypeptides joined together. Peptides are among of the most powerful anti-aging ingredients... and here is more
Polyacrylamide
Vegan ingredient that creates a thin film on skin that moisturizes and binds water in. Has lubricating properties.
Stearic Acid
Stearic Acid is a natural fatty acid found in vegetable fats. It is great emulsifier, wonderful emollient and skin replenishing ingredient. It has been shown to protect skin's surface against water loss and help shore up skin's protective barrier.
How is stearic acid produced?
To isolate the substance, fat or oil that contains the amino acid is heated and pressurized. Then, the material is placed in boiling water inside a distillation machine. This device catches the steam given off by boiling the fat or oil samples and then carries it through a series of chilled coils. The sudden drop in temperature causes the stearic acid to condense and become a liquid. It can then be further cooled to produce a waxy solid substance.
